It’s Ok to Take a Break From Being Strong for Everyone Else

Sometimes, we convince ourselves that we should just "tough it out" and “push through” our struggles. This mindset is often taught and reinforced among family members, friends and colleagues.  Although the value of strength, independence and self-reliance are important qualities, without the awareness of how to establish a consistent healthy balance, some emotional/ mental warning signs can go unnoticed.

According to research, depression and anxiety disorders affect millions of adults in the United States alone.   Studies have shown that only a fraction of individuals suffering seek the help they need.  Unfortunately, many individuals suffer longer periods of time prior to seeking help due to the subtle increase of symptoms that are often unknowingly normalized.

The purpose of this blog, is to increase your awareness. If you are experiencing any overwhelming mental or emotional distress it’s important to be honest with yourself and seek additional support.

With your current awareness, if you choose not pursue support, it would be comparable to you knowingly ignoring a burglar and choosing to  tolerate their unwanted presence.

Please note, that every experience of mental or emotional distress does not meet the criteria of a mental health diagnosis. As you navigate your next steps, it is advisable to not self diagnose, but seek medical advice.
